What your EQTiger empathy score means
EQTiger’s Empathy and Perspective-Taking dimension concerns understanding how a situation may feel from another person’s side. Its score does not measure kindness, moral worth, or how intensely you absorb others’ feelings. Use it to examine how you check perspectives and choose support.

Perspective-taking needs room for correction
You can imagine how someone feels and still be wrong. A useful empathy habit leaves room for the person to explain their own experience. You might acknowledge that a cancellation seems disappointing and ask what mattered most about the plan. The question is valuable because your interpretation is provisional. Understanding is something you check in an interaction, not something established by confidently naming another person's emotion.
The EQTiger dimension combines responses to relevant scenarios with self-described habits. The score is descriptive and specific to this assessment. It does not directly observe whether a friend felt heard or whether your support matched their preference. Connect the interpretation to real examples before turning it into a broad claim about how caring you are.
Read a strength without creating an unlimited duty
A higher empathy score does not obligate you to agree to every request. You can understand disappointment and still have a limit. Likewise, feeling another person's distress intensely does not automatically identify the best response. Ask what help is wanted and what you can realistically provide. A clear, sustainable offer can be more useful than taking over a problem or promising more than you can do.
If this is a growth area, focus on a specific step rather than trying to force yourself to feel exactly what someone else feels. You might practice checking your summary or asking whether advice is wanted. These actions are observable and leave space for the other person to differ from your expectation.
Example: supporting a disappointed colleague
Imagine a colleague misses out on a project they wanted. You may assume they want encouragement, but they might prefer help understanding the decision or simply time to talk. Ask before choosing the support. If they decline, respect that answer. Their preference does not make your original offer uncaring; it gives you information about what would fit now.
For practice, review one exchange where you offered help. Write what was requested, what you assumed, and what you actually offered. Notice whether those were the same. If appropriate, ask the person whether the offer was useful without demanding reassurance. This is an original reflection prompt and not an item from a named empathy instrument.
The limits of the result
A difference between empathy judgment and habits can suggest a question about recognizing versus reporting a response. It does not reveal your motives or establish that one component is the true measure of your character. Insufficient completion can leave the dimension unscored; that should never be treated as zero empathy.
