Social awareness test
Social awareness involves noticing context and checking interpretations of other people’s behavior. This page starts the full EQTiger assessment and offers examples for reflecting on group interactions. It does not test mind-reading or treat eye contact, tone, or facial expression as proof of a feeling.

Who it is for
Adults who want to consider group dynamics, missing context, and inclusive ways to ask what others need.
A cue is a reason to check, not a conclusion
A colleague speaks less in a video meeting. They might disagree, have a connection problem, be taking notes, or prefer time to think. “You seem disengaged” selects one explanation. “Would you like to add anything now, or send thoughts afterward?” offers more than one way to participate.
Patterns across a situation can inform a question, but they do not remove uncertainty. Think about what you directly observed and how the setting might influence it before attributing a motive.
Read the room by looking at access
At a dinner, a fast exchange of inside jokes may leave a new guest with little opportunity to join. You can explain a reference, ask an open question, or make space for a different subject. The goal is participation, not a public announcement that someone looks uncomfortable.
At work, a person may hold back because the most senior voice has already declared a preference. Ask for written concerns or invite alternatives before finalizing. Consider how your own behavior contributes to the atmosphere you are trying to interpret.
What an assessment can add
Reflect on whether you notice interruptions, ask for missing perspectives, and revise your first interpretation. Be careful about equating one cultural communication style with social skill. Clear requests are often more useful than attempts to decode someone silently.
The 36-item EQTiger assessment includes social awareness as one of six dimensions. This page does not offer a separate social-cue accuracy score. The free profile and optional report can prompt reflection, while real people remain the best source for checking what they meant.

Questions
Is this a test of reading facial expressions?
No. EQTiger uses written situations and habit questions. A facial expression or social cue is not treated as certain evidence of someone’s thoughts.
