Who it is for

Adults who want to make everyday messages easier to understand and respond to, especially when assumptions or urgency get in the way.

Clarity includes a usable request

“Be more supportive” may express a real need but leave the listener guessing what to do. “Could you listen for a few minutes before we discuss solutions?” gives them something specific to consider. A clear request also permits an honest answer about availability.

Directness and warmth can coexist. The exercise does not reward the longest message, the softest wording, or agreement at any cost. It favors enough information to understand the issue and a next step that another person can answer.

Choose a channel and check understanding

A complex disagreement may be hard to resolve in a stream of short texts. You could summarize the issue and propose a time to talk, while respecting a preference for written communication. Do not assume that a delayed reply means hostility.

The six scenarios include vague instructions, mixed messages, interruptions, digital tone, repair, and a request that receives a no. Notice how checking understanding differs from demanding that someone agree with you.

Try one change in a real message

Before sending a routine request, underline the action, timing, and choice you are offering. If any part is missing, add it in ordinary language. Then remove any accusation you cannot support with a specific observation.

This is a communication rehearsal, not a credential or a measure of eloquence. The full EQTiger assessment also explores the emotions behind communication choices. Its 36 items and separate result remain independent of this six-question practice.
