This free PDF contains a wallet-size pause card with a short reminder: pause, notice, name, choose, and return. Print at actual size and cut along the border. It is a portable prompt for ordinary moments of pressure, not a promise to calm you down.

Inside the PDF
One Letter page containing a 3.375 × 2.125 inch card. Print at 100 percent.
- PAUSE: Stop the next action if it is safe to do so.
- NOTICE: What is happening in me and around me?
- NAME: Which word fits, even tentatively?
- CHOOSE: A question, a boundary, or a small next step.
- RETURN: If I take a break, when will I come back?
Who it is for
Adults who want a small paper reminder for taking a deliberate pause before replying, sending a message, or returning to a disagreement.
Use it before the next action
You do not have to complete a long exercise. Stop the action you can safely stop, notice what is happening, and choose one word that seems close. Then ask what next step serves the situation: a question, a boundary, a brief break, or a reply you can stand behind.
If you pause a conversation, make the return explicit. “I need a few minutes. Can we come back at seven?” is more informative than walking away without a plan. Adjust the wording and timing to your circumstances.
Print the card at its intended size
The card border measures 3.375 by 2.125 inches on a Letter page. Select actual size or 100 percent in the print dialog; do not use fit-to-page if you want the intended wallet size. Cut on the border and keep the printed instructions for reference.
The card is single-sided and includes a blank return-time line. It is not an emergency resource or a requirement to remain in an unsafe exchange. Choose safety and appropriate support over finishing a script.
