EQ-i 2.0: self-report model, uses, and limits
EQ-i 2.0 is a self-report emotional intelligence inventory in the Bar-On tradition, commonly placed within mixed EI models. It covers a broader set of emotional and social characteristics than a narrow ability task. Its result is not interchangeable with an EQTiger score.

What it is and how people respond
MHS describes EQ-i 2.0 as a 133-item inventory with 15 subscales and an updated framework derived from the earlier EQ-i. Its broad areas include self-perception, self-expression, interpersonal functioning, decision-making, and stress management. The accompanying EQ 360 2.0 is a complementary observer-feedback assessment, not simply another name for the self-report form. (MHS, EQ-i 2.0 framework)
Items ask for self-descriptions of emotional and social functioning. This guide does not reproduce their wording or scoring. When reviewing an offer, identify whether it includes self-report, observer feedback, or both. The distinction affects whose perspective the report contains and what questions you should ask about the interpretation. A self-description and a colleague's observation are not the same source of information.
Model, strengths, and interpretation limits
The broader competency and disposition content is why this family is usually discussed as mixed EI. Published reviews also caution about overlap between broad EI inventories and personality-related content. (O’Connor and colleagues, 2019)
That breadth can be useful when organizing a development conversation, but it means the total should not be treated as a pure test of solving emotion problems. Ask which part of the report relates to your actual goal. If you want to improve a feedback conversation, connect the relevant interpretation to examples of giving and receiving feedback rather than assuming every subscale has equal importance for the situation.
Who uses it and how access works
When considering EQ-i 2.0 for development or coaching, confirm access, qualification requirements, report options, and terms with MHS or an authorized provider. Do not infer permission or professional suitability from the fact that a framework description is publicly readable. Ask the provider which requirements apply to the specific administration you are considering.
Before agreeing to an administration, ask what feedback session is included and who will receive the results. In a workplace setting, clarify whether the purpose is development and how the information will be used. Do not assume a professional-sounding report can support any employment decision. Evidence and administration need to fit the intended purpose, and a practitioner should explain the limits of the specific interpretation being offered.
How EQTiger differs
EQTiger is an independent self-reflection assessment for adults. It combines scenario judgment with habit self-report across six product-specific dimensions. It does not administer EQ-i 2.0, reproduce its items, or supply its score interpretation. EQTiger bands describe the EQTiger scale only. A matching number on two reports would not establish matching emotional functioning because the methods and scales differ.
For original practice, choose one request you recently found hard to express. Write the request clearly, identify the other person's practical constraints, and consider a response if they decline. This is a reflection on communication, not a licensed inventory item or preparation method.
